The Habs lost their first game the other night, in grand fashion 10-0 in Columbus. As I write this, they are 10-1-1.

Backup netminder Al Montoya absorbed the drubbing, as star goalie Carey Price had the night off.

Currently, Price has a record of 7-0-0 and a save percentage of .952.

The league average save percentage at this time is .912.

Montoya is 3-1-1 with a save average of .908.

The superior save average by Price against both the league and his alternate in goal sets himself up to have a great goalie card for game simulation.

The same was true for the 1993-94 (reissued season by both Strat and APBA) Sabres with Dominek Hasek and Grant Fuhr in goal.

Hasek had a .930 save percentage in '93-'94 when the league average was .895. Backup Fuhr had a .883 save average. Hasek played 66% of the minutes, with a 1.95 GAA, Fuhr had a 3.68 GAA. This all set up Hasek to have maybe the best goalie card ever.

The first year expansion team in 1993-94--the Florida Panthers--barely missed the playoffs and, because of their superior defensive system under coach Roger Neilson, the goalie save average of .919 was best in the league.
