Congratulations to former NFL general manager Bobby Beathard for being put into the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame.

Washington was a franchise that was gutted of its draft choices when Beathard took over as GM. He had little to work with via the draft during his tenure, but selected wisely with his few opportunities (Art Monk, Darrell Green). The Redskins went on to get several key players from supplemental picks and many players who were "Plan B" free agents during the 1980's.

Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders, Kelvin Bryant, Doug Williams, etc., were key players who emerged for the Redskins following their stints in the USFL (1983-1985).

Out of all the modern NFL franchises who had similar success (Redskins won three Super Bowls in a ten year span--1982, 1987, & 1991-) the Redskins were easily the least dependent team on the player entry draft.

But Beathard's best move was hiring Joe Gibbs in 1981.

For the record, Charley Casserly was GM for that third Super Bowl as Bobby had moved on to San Diego.
