At season's end, 3.5 games separated the Mets, Cardinals, Pirates, and Expos. An SOM replay would produce an interesting outcome. A solitaire pitching regulation of mine would play a crucial role in the outcome. To wit: a starting pitcher MUST REMAIN in the game until at least THREE RUNS have scored against him, UNLESS (a) he's reached his POW, or (b) he's completed FIVE INNINGS.

1973 disaster starters:

Steve Blass '73 Pirates 18 Starts 5 relief 89 IP 109 hits 84 walks 9.81 E.R.A.

Bill Stoneman, '73 Expos: 29 games, 17 STARTS, 97 innings, 120 hits, 55 walks, 48 strikeouts,   6.77 ERA.

Jim McAndrew, '73 Mets:  23 games, 12 STARTS, 80 innngs, 109 hits, 31 walks, 38 strikeouts,   5.40 ERA.

Jim Bibby,   '73 Cardinals:  6 games,   3 STARTS,  16 innings, 19 hits,  17 walks, 12 strikeouts,   9.56 ERA.

Of course, I don't use the aforementioned regulation for draft league competition.
