1982 AL Cy Young award winner Pete Vuckovich must have thrown an awful lot of pitches. In his 30 starts that year, "Vucko" had 22 that included him surrendering 10 or more qualifiers (hits plus walks plus HBP).

2018 NL Cy Young frontrunner Jacob deGrom has 31 starts with a week left in the season. He has not surrendered more than 9 qualifiers in a game yet.

Here's a list of qualifiers given up by 1982 Vuckovich from his 30 starts, in descending order:

Vuckovich's 1982 Yank Number: 11.198
deGrom's 2018 Yank Number is: 6.328

Vuckovich had 16 starts in 1982 that went beyond his Yank Number, when rounded off. 14 starts below his Yank Number.

The application of Yank Numbers in S-O-M will simulate the pitch count and have the effect of moderating pitcher use. Normalizing his usage, if you will.

Just like the effect of S-O-M creating player cards with their composite (yearly) stats instead of a Baseball Daily computer game which tries to capture a player's day-to-day extremes, hot streaks, cold spells, and extreme use/overuse.

When using Pitcher Regulation Tables with Yank Numbers & Innings Max, injuries that pitchers sustained which caused them to miss parts of games or parts of the season, are not necessary to apply because the pitcher usage is already regulated to realism.
