Vegas line: Vikings -4 total 45

Vikings beat the Saints 29-19 in Minnesota in week one as Sam Bradford was sensational at quarterback.

But Bradford suffered yet another knee injury and has missed almost the entire season.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, a disciple of Bill Parcells, has maintained secrecy as to the status of Bradford on the current depth chart.

Bradford has been medically cleared to return and has practiced very well.

Minnesota offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur mentored Bradford in both St. Louis and Philadelphia and I suspect Bradford will be installed as Case Keenum's backup for the post season leaving Teddy Bridgewater as the odd man out. All three quarterbacks are free agents at season's end.

Bradford has a higher ceiling than Keenum, his downfield passing is much more reliable.

Bradford--When healthy--gives the Vikings the best chance to win against well coached defenses.

But the Vikings went 11-3 under the steady play of Keenum, so a Bradford playoff appearance would likely have to be a result of either injury or extreme ineffective play by Keenum. The latter situation may present a too-late-to-fix scenario.

It may have to be a Bob Griese-to-Earl Morrell-back to Griese scenario for Bradford to re-emerge. Griese returned for playoff availability in 1972 after injury but Morrell was undefeated through several games as his backup.

But Don Shula knew Griese was his number one guy and inserted him into action midway through the Dolphins' AFC Championship contest against the Steelers.
