I loved this NHL season so much, I made it one of three past NHL seasons (1983-84 and 1993-94 are the others) that I have set up for game simulation using just pen-and-paper and dice rolls.

The champion Flames were a deep team built mostly on great trades and signings of undrafted players (Jamie Macoun and Colin Patterson) by Hall of Fame general manager Cliff Fletcher.

Those Flames were 34-4-4 at home, 22-13-5 on the road. I have not yet located a database that has home/road splits for NHL seasons, but it would be nice to simulate that effect because it can be so stark, especially in a sport like hockey.

The Kings are especially tough with Kelly Hrudey in goal due to his superior save percentage compared to the other Los Angeles netminders.
